Before anything changed
It was July.
Like every day, I had my laptop bag on my back and was going to the bank.
For years, that bag had always been with me.
It had become part of my work, my movements, my life.
But my back also knew that bag very well.
Every time I carried it for a few hours, the pain would start.
Sometimes it would get so strong that the only way to calm it was not to carry the bag for a few days.
That day, as soon as I entered the bank, I took the bag off my back and sat down to wait.
But the pain was there.
And it was very strong.
I remember that, at one point, I was so annoyed by that pain that I almost screamed.
Then I calmed down.
I don't know why, but at that moment I didn't do anything I usually did.
I just said in a low voice:
“Back pain, in the name of Jesus, disappear now.”
And, at that moment…
The pain disappeared.
As if someone had turned it off with a switch.
I was speechless.
I couldn't believe it.
I moved my back.
I straightened up.
I bent down.
I moved it again.
I was looking for the pain.
But it wasn't there anymore.
I stood for a few minutes like that, trying to understand what had just happened.
And the words came out of me spontaneously:
“Wow… Oh God… was it that simple?”
One sentence.
Just one sentence.
And that pain, which I had known for so many years, was gone.
When I left the bank, I was filled with a joy that I still can't explain well.
I was walking down the street and just thanking God.
But, along with the joy, another thought began to come to me.
If this was possible…
Why had I lived so long thinking that pain was just something I had to get used to?
Perhaps this was what touched me the most.
Not only had the pain gone away.
But suddenly I was seeing something I had accepted for years in a different light.
And there began a new search for me.
Because sometimes it's not just the problem that needs to be solved.
Sometimes we need to stop and ask ourselves:
“What if there are things in my life that I have accepted as inevitable, just because I’ve gotten used to them?”
This is what I began to discover.
Not an answer to everything.
Just a door that opened.
And behind that door there was much more to discover.
