01THE SHORT ANSWER

The books of the Bible were written by many people, in different times and circumstances. In Scripture we see Moses, David, the prophets, the apostles, and others writing.

But the Bible tells us that Scripture did not simply come from their thought or will. They spoke and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

Therefore, the Bible has human authors, but the source of its inspiration is God.

02THE WORD

Here is what the Bible says about this question.

“For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit.”

2 Peter 1:21

“Yahweh said to Moses, “Write you these words: for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.””

Exodus 34:27

““Yahweh’s Spirit spoke by me. His word was on my tongue.”

2 Samuel 23:2

03WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME

The people who wrote parts of the Bible were not all used in the same way.

God told Moses to write.

David testified that the Spirit of the Lord spoke through him.

Luke carefully investigated the events and wrote an orderly account.

John wrote what was shown to him in revelation.

The forms and circumstances were different, but Scripture gives us this conclusion:

All Scripture is God-breathed.
