Before anything changed
A few days later, I needed to hire someone.
It wasn't about an ordinary position.
It was a specific and very important role for the company:
Sales and Marketing Manager.
Given previous experience, I decided to do the same thing again.
To turn to God with a concrete request and ask with faith, relying on His Word and promise.
The verses I was relying on were 1 John 5:14–15.
They teach us that when we ask according to His will, God hears us.
“This is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. And if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.”
1 John 5:14-15
This time I decided to be even more specific.
I didn't just want a person to work in the company.
I was looking for a Sales and Marketing Manager: someone who had managerial experience in both these fields.
And, if possible, I wanted the candidate to be a woman.
The turning point
After presenting the request to God, I lay calmly in bed and thought:
“Okay, I made the request. But how will others know I'm looking for an employee?”
I got up and posted the position on social media.
After a few days, the number of applications had reached the limit.
16 candidates had applied, and the opportunity to apply was closed, because this was the maximum number of applications allowed by the free publication.
I started looking at the candidates one by one.
But something didn't match.
Most of the candidates were male.
And none of the profiles had what I was looking for.
There was no candidate who simultaneously had managerial experience in sales and marketing.
In fact, amidst all this, some friends wrote to me:
“Make up your mind: either sales, or marketing. They are two different things.”
It seemed like what I had asked for was too specific.
But I wasn't discouraged.
I just kept waiting.
What I understood
A few days later I opened my email.
When I checked the Spam folder, I saw an email that had ended up there.
I opened it.
It was an application from a female candidate.
Along with the email was her CV.
I started reading it.
And that's where I stopped.
Her previous positions had been precisely managerial roles in marketing and sales.
I read it again.
Then once more.
It was exactly the combination I had asked for.
Wow…
I stood for a few moments looking at the CV.
It wasn't just the fact that an application had come from a female candidate.
It was the way the details matched.
It was a woman.
She was applying for the position I was looking for.
She had managerial experience in marketing.
She had managerial experience in sales.
And the application had come in a way I hadn't expected:
Through an email that had ended up in the Spam folder.
Then I thought again about the experience I had just gone through.
And that word came to me again:
Wow.
I had made a very specific request.
And now, before me, was an application in which the details matched one after another.
Then I thought:
"How detailed and precise is the Kingdom of God."
And this left me with another question:
"What if we haven't yet understood how concretely we can present our requests to God, asking according to His will and believing that He hears us?"
