Before anything changed
We had gone shopping at Marshalls, in New York.
We were on the third floor, while the shopping center had many floors and was very large.
I had a backpack with me.
Inside it, I had put everything I needed: my wallet, passports, keys, and other things.
We had been moving around the store for more than three hours, looking at and trying on clothes for the whole family.
The cart was full.
We went to the checkout and stood in line.
The turning point
While waiting in line, I started looking for the backpack I had with me.
I checked all around.
But I couldn't find it.
The bag was no longer with me.
In a hurry, I took everything out of the cart and started checking.
Panic seized me.
The first thing I thought of was the passports.
The next day we were returning to Albania.
I was thinking:
“What would happen if I didn't find it?”
I ran immediately and approached a saleswoman who was there.
I explained to her that I had lost my bag.
She asked me:
— In which section were you?
The problem was that I had been through almost all the sections and floors.
We had been moving around the store and trying on clothes for more than three hours.
I tried to explain to her where I might have left it.
We went together to check.
But we found nothing.
Then we went to the Lost and Found section.
We explained the situation to them.
They checked too.
Again, nothing.
I went through the floors again, one by one.
I was looking for the bag everywhere.
What I understood
At that moment I took a deep breath.
And I said:
“Holy Spirit, please help me find my bag now.”
That’s it.
Not even five minutes passed.
The person who had accompanied me came straight to me and said:
— We found the bag.
I was astonished.
The bag had been found.
Inside it were the passports, wallet, keys, and everything else.
I took it in my hands.
For a moment I just stood looking at it.
But then I began to understand something.
What changed
It wasn't just the fact that the bag was found.
What touched me was something else.
I began to understand differently what the Word teaches us about turning to God.
Even for small things.
Even for those things that, seemingly, are not “big things.”
And I thought:
“I will start to rely on the Word and turn to God even for things that, seemingly, are not ‘big things’.”
Perhaps not everything we ask God for seems big to someone else.
But it can be important to us.
And that day left me with a question:
"What if we still have much to discover about how the Word of God works?"
