I MADE A MISTAKE. WHAT DO I DO NOW?

When you wish you could take it back, but you can't.

HAVE YOU DONE SOMETHING YOU WISH YOU COULD TAKE BACK?

Maybe you said something you shouldn't have said.

Maybe you made the wrong choice.

Maybe you hurt someone.

Maybe you knew you shouldn't do it...

but you did.

And now your mind keeps going back to what happened.

You think:

“Why did I do that?”

“Why didn't I do something different?”

“How can I make this right?”

And the question becomes:

WHAT DO I DO NOW?

WHAT IF YOUR MISTAKE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE THE END?

When we make a mistake, our minds can say:

“I ruined everything.”

“Now it's too late.”

“I can't go back.”

And it is true:

there are things you cannot undo.

But that does not mean your story has to end there.

In the Bible, there is a man who made a very serious mistake.

He was very close to JESUS.

And during one of the hardest moments...

he said that he didn't know Him.

IT WAS PETER

Peter was one of the closest disciples of JESUS.

He had told JESUS that he would stand with Him.

But that night, he became afraid.

When people asked whether he was with JESUS...

Peter said:

“I don't know Him.”

And he didn't say it only once.

He said it three times.

Then he realized what he had done.

HE BROKE DOWN

When Peter understood what he had done...

he went outside.

And he wept.

He could not undo what he had said.

He could not turn the night back.

The mistake had happened.

This is the part many people understand:

“I DID IT.

NOW I CAN'T TAKE IT BACK.”

But Peter's story did not end there.

JESUS DID NOT LEAVE PETER IN HIS FAILURE

After the resurrection, JESUS met Peter again.

He did not treat him as though everything was over.

He did not say:

“You disappointed Me. Go away.”

JESUS spoke with him.

He asked:

“Do you love Me?”

And then He gave Peter responsibility again.

So:

Peter made a serious mistake.

He understood what he had done.

He repented.

And JESUS did not leave him in his failure.

YOUR MISTAKE DOES NOT HAVE TO HAVE THE FINAL WORD

You cannot change what has already happened.

But you can decide what you do now.

You can hide it.

You can pretend it didn't happen.

You can blame someone else.

You can run from it.

Or you can begin where every real return begins:

ADMIT IT.

Not:

“Yes, I did it, but it wasn't really my fault.”

But:

“Yes.

I did it.”

That is the beginning.

IF YOU HAVE DONE WRONG, BEGIN WITH THE TRUTH

If you hurt someone...

admit it.

If you did something wrong...

don't make it sound better than it was.

If you lied...

don't rename it.

If you can repair part of the damage...

do it.

If you need to apologize to someone...

ask for forgiveness.

Because repentance does not begin by hiding.

It begins by stepping into the truth.

BUT THERE IS ANOTHER PART

Sometimes your mistake did not affect only another person.

It also affected your relationship with God.

And there are times when you need to say:

“GOD, I WAS WRONG.”

Not to make it sound better.

Not to justify it.

But to bring it to Him exactly as it is.

CAN GOD FORGIVE ME?

Yes.

Peter had denied JESUS.

But JESUS received him again.

That does not mean Peter's actions did not matter.

They did.

It means that his failure was not the end of his relationship with JESUS.

And that shows us something very important:

FORGIVENESS IS GREATER THAN YOUR FAILURE.

When you admit what you have done...

repent...

and return to God...

you do not have to spend your whole life hiding from Him.

But how do we come to God?

JESUS IS THE WAY BACK

JESUS did not come only for people who had never done anything wrong.

If that were true...

none of us would have hope.

He came because humanity had turned away from God.

And JESUS said:

“I am the way and the truth and the life; no one comes to the FATHER except through me.”

So if you are thinking:

“I have done too much wrong.”

the question is not:

“Am I good enough to come back?”

The question is:

“DO I WANT TO COME BACK?”

DON'T TRY TO CLEAN YOURSELF UP BEFORE YOU COME

Maybe you're thinking:

“I have to fix my life first.”

“Then I'll come to God.”

No.

Peter did not first repair his past and then return to JESUS.

He could not change what had happened.

He came back to JESUS as he was.

You can also come to God by telling the truth:

“I was wrong.”

“I don't want to keep living this way.”

“I need forgiveness.”

“I need to change direction.”

REPENTANCE IS MORE THAN FEELING BAD

You may cry.

You may feel guilty.

You may think about the mistake all night.

You may condemn yourself again and again.

But feeling bad by itself does not change your direction.

Repentance begins when you admit the truth and say:

“I DON'T WANT TO KEEP GOING THIS WAY.”

Then you turn.

Peter did not stay only with his tears.

He returned to JESUS.

Repentance is not only:

“I'm sorry.”

It is also:

“I want to change direction.”

BEGIN WITH JESUS

If you want to return to your Creator...

if you want forgiveness...

if you want a new beginning...

the beginning is JESUS.

Not a list of rules.

Not a list of works.

Not trying to prove to God that you are now “better.”

JESUS.

You do not have to hide what you have done before coming to Him.

You come by telling the truth.

And if this is what you truly want, you can tell the FATHER.

A SIMPLE PRAYER

It is not the words of a formula that save you.

It is not about perfect words.

What matters is that you are coming to JESUS with faith and sincerity.

If you understand that you need to return to God and want to trust JESUS, you can simply tell the FATHER in your own words.

You can say:

FATHER,

I come to You just as I am.

I have done wrong, and I need Your forgiveness.

I believe in JESUS.

I believe that He is the Way to You and my Savior.

Forgive me for my sins.

Today I receive JESUS as the Lord and Savior of my life.

Draw me close to You.

Teach me to know You and to walk with You.

Help me turn away from what is wrong and walk in what is right.

I want to begin a new life with You.

In the name of JESUS. Amen.

NOW LOOK AT WHAT YOU CAN MAKE RIGHT

Forgiveness does not mean:

“Pretend nothing happened.”

Now ask yourself:

Is there someone I need to apologize to?

Is there something I need to return?

Did I tell a lie that I need to correct?

Did I cause damage that I can repair?

Is there something wrong that I need to stop doing?

If there is something right you can do now...

DO IT.

Repentance is not only words.

When possible, it also shows in what you do next.

But there is something else you should not do:

do not try to spend the rest of your life paying for a mistake that you have brought to God with genuine repentance.

Responsibility is not the same thing as living forever under condemnation.

DON'T LET YOUR MISTAKE BECOME YOUR IDENTITY

Peter made a serious mistake.

But his story did not end with:

“The man who denied JESUS.”

His story continued.

JESUS restored him.

Peter moved forward.

The mistake was part of his story.

But it was not the end of it.

You may also have done something that hurts you today.

Admit it.

Repent.

Ask for forgiveness.

Repair what you can.

Return to God.

And then don't wake up every day telling yourself:

“I am my mistake.”

No.

YOU MADE A MISTAKE.

BUT YOU ARE NOT ONLY WHAT YOU HAVE DONE.

I MADE A MISTAKE. WHAT DO I DO NOW?

At the beginning, the question was:

“I MADE A MISTAKE.

WHAT DO I DO NOW?”

Now the answer is clearer:

ADMIT IT.

REPENT.

ASK FOR FORGIVENESS.

MAKE RIGHT WHAT YOU CAN.

RETURN TO JESUS.

AND MOVE FORWARD.

You cannot change yesterday.

But you can choose what you do today.

And if one day you look back at the mistake that today feels as though it has written your whole story...

you may realize that it was not the end.

It may have been the very place where your return began.
