Part 1
Was man created to be sick?
Was pain part of the creation that God called “very good”?
Was man created to live in fear, suffering, and hardship?
Was death the purpose for which God created man?
Or did something happen?
If we want to understand why the life we see today is so different from what is described in the beginning, we must return to Genesis.
We must see what God had given to man.
Because, before we understand what man lost, we must know what he had received in the beginning.
MAN WAS CREATED TO RULE
When God created man, He did not place him on earth as a creature who merely had to try to survive.
God gave man a special place.
Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion…
Genesis 1:26
Then the Word says:
So God created man in His own image…
Genesis 1:27
And immediately after this:
Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’
Genesis 1:28
Look carefully.
God did not just give man life.
He blessed him.
He gave him a place within creation.
He gave him responsibility.
And He gave him dominion.
Man was placed over creation to administer what God had entrusted to him.
The Word describes even more clearly the place God gave to man:
What is man that You are mindful of him…? For You have made him a little lower than God, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet.
Psalm 8:4–6
You have crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him dominion.
You have put all things under his feet.
This was man in the beginning.
Created by God.
Created in His image.
Blessed by Him.
And appointed to administer what God had created.
At the end of creation, God saw everything He had made.
Then God saw everything that He had made, and behold, it was very good.
Genesis 1:31
In this initial description, we do not yet see death, fear, shame, thorns, and toil that appear after disobedience.
They appear later.
BUT GOD ALSO GAVE HIM A COMMAND
Among everything that God had given to man, there was also a clear command.
You may freely eat from every tree of the garden; but you shall not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for in the day that you eat from it, you shall surely die.
Genesis 2:16–17
Man had freedom.
He could eat from every tree of the garden.
But there was also a limit that God had set.
The command was clear:
Do not eat from that tree.
And God had also shown him the consequence:
You shall surely die.
Then what changed the history of man happened.
Man was deceived.
He chose not to obey God.
And he ate from that tree.
And the woman… took of its fruit and ate; then she also gave to her husband… and he ate.
Genesis 3:6
Because of this transgression, the consequence for which God had warned came.
This was the moment of the Fall.
And along with sin came death.
The Word explains it clearly:
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and through sin death, so also death spread to all men…
Romans 5:12
Sin entered the world.
And, through sin, death entered.
Man's relationship with God and the state of creation were no longer as before.
Man was driven from the garden and lost access to the tree of life.
So He drove out the man; and He placed cherubim at the east of the Garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
Genesis 3:24
WHAT HAPPENED TO MAN'S AUTHORITY?
Here we must pause for a moment.
In the beginning, God had told man:
Rule…
Genesis 1:28
And the Psalm says:
You have given him dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet.
Psalm 8:6
God gave man authority and dominion over the earth.
But Adam rebelled against God.
Instead of remaining in obedience to the Word of God, he transgressed the command he had received.
When Adam rebelled against God, he surrendered the authority and dominion that God had given him over the earth.
Humanity became subject to fear, lack, sickness, confusion, and oppression that entered through sin.
Much later, when Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, he showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and said:
I will give You all this power and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.
Luke 4:6
The Word does not say that Adam gave the crown to Satan.
But it shows us two very clear pictures.
In the beginning:
God gave man dominion.
Later:
Satan tells Jesus that authority over the kingdoms had been given to him.
And between these two moments, the Fall occurred.
Man, to whom God had given dominion, did not guard what was entrusted to him.
He chose disobedience.
And after this, the world was no longer what it had been in the beginning.
Jesus Himself said:
Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out!
John 12:31
Jesus called Satan “the ruler of this world.”
But He also said that the ruler of this world would be cast out.
This leads us to what Jesus came to do.
AND THE CONSEQUENCES CAME
After the Fall, the change appeared immediately.
Adam and Eve saw that they were naked.
Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized that they were naked…
Genesis 3:7
Then came fear.
When they heard the voice of God, they hid.
And Adam said:
I was afraid… and I hid.
Genesis 3:10
Then came pain and toil.
In pain you shall bring forth children…
Genesis 3:16
And for man:
Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life… Thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you… In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread…
Genesis 3:17–19
And finally:
…until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.
Genesis 3:19
Shame.
Fear.
Pain.
Toil.
Thorns.
Sweat.
Corruption.
And death.
These are the consequences that the Genesis story describes after the Fall.
The Word says that even creation was subjected to this condition:
For the creation was subjected to futility…
Romans 8:20
And:
For we know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
Romans 8:22
The creation that God had called “very good” was now groaning and in toil.
Through sin, death had entered.
Humanity had become subject to fear, lack, sickness, confusion, and oppression.
Therefore, darkness was not what God created man for.
In the beginning was blessing.
In the beginning was dominion.
In the beginning was relationship with God.
But man chose disobedience to God.
And the Fall brought consequences.
Fear.
Lack.
Sickness.
Confusion.
Oppression.
Corruption.
And death.
This is what entered through sin.
Here begins the darkness.
Not because God created man for darkness.
But because what God had created good was affected by the Fall.
And now another question arises:
If sin brought death…
If creation was subjected to decay…
If man lost the position of authority that God had entrusted to him…
Had God prepared a way for man to pass from curse to blessing?
Here the revelation continues.
